چکیده
Positron emission tomography (PET) is a molecular imaging method that images the human body non-invasively from a functional, biochemical perspective. PET is extraordinarily sensitive and can detect minute (femtomolar) quantities of radioactive tracers. However, because of photon scattering, the images do not have as high spatial resolution as CT or MRI nor do they provide much anatomical information. For this reason, PET is routinely combined with CT in hybrid scanners, which enables more precise anatomical localization of radioactivity. Combined PET/CT imaging provides better diagnostic information than either technique alone (Figure 1).
